She said that the cooperative societies will enable the women to access micro
credit that would help to boost their businesses while maintaining that the present administration is committed
to improving living standards of the people, she added that the economic
empowerment tour was aimed at assisting women with little finance, to either
start or boost their various businesses.
In her remark, the commissioner for Women’s Affairs and
Social Development, Dr Victoria Chikwelu, noted that since inception the APGA
government, in the state has empowered several women at the grass roots.
Speaking earlier the wives of the Local Government Areas
Chairmen visited, Mrs Lady Ijeoma Mbaegbu and Mrs Nneka Awugozie commended
Chief (Mrs) Obiano for empowering women across the state and called on the
women to reciprocate by being resourceful.
This year’s Economic empowerment tour saw about two thousand
eight hundred and thirty five indigent people, one thousand eight hundred and
ninety widows, nine hundred and forty five skilled and five hundred and sixty
seven unskilled persons empowered, as well as distribution of fifty five
thousand bags of fertilizer, fifty thousand bags of beans and rice, twenty
thousand bags of maize as well as fifteen thousand cottons of milk during the
visit.
