The wife of executive Governor Chief (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano
visited Amaku general hospital Awka following a fatal accident that claimed
life of an adult male passenger in a commuter’s bus the previous day at
Enugu-Onitsha express road Awka. She was received by the chief medical officer
(CMD) Dr. Ikeaku the immediate past commissioner for health, who conducted her
around the hospital wards where the accident victims were receiving treatment
and made her understood that 13 out of the passengers were in good condition
i.e., responding to treatment.
While the other victims sustained varied degrees
of injuries ranging from head injuries, fractures on the hip, eye and limps
injuries etc. According to the CMD, successful head surgery was carried out on
some victims while waiting for the arrival of expert surgeons for both hip and
limp surgery right in the hospital. In response to the CMD’s highlight, her Excellency acknowledged the high level of hygiene, cleanliness and friendly atmosphere that was observed in the premises despite the obvious fact that the hospital needs more space as the wards were choked up with patients. She really commended the CMD and his medical team’s effort while urging the victims to feel free and worry less as the Executive Governor has promised to take care of their medical bills. She enjoined them to be happy and thank God in all situations, while she also prayed God to grant them quick recovery to enable them reunite with their families.
She made a cash donation of one hundred thousand naira only
(N100, 000:00) to each wards (male /female) for use to purchase some of their toiletries
and other minors. She left the hospital with cheering ovation from both the
patients and the hospital workers at about 7.45pm local time
